Tell us what happened
One address, read by the people who build the apps. No account needed, no ticket number, no chatbot standing between you and an answer.
Email the studio
Bugs, feature ideas, licence questions and general confusion all go to the same place. We are a small studio, so replies usually take a few days rather than a few minutes.
Four lines that get it fixed faster
You do not have to include any of this. It just turns a guess into a fix, often on the first reply instead of the fourth.
- Which app, and which version. The version number is at the bottom of the app's Settings screen, under About.
- What device. Phone model and Android version, or which Windows build, is usually enough.
- What you did, step by step. Even three short steps beat a paragraph of description.
- What you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot is worth all four lines put together.
Across all our apps
Do I need an account to use your apps?
No. Every app works fully without signing in. An account only comes into it for paid plans and for syncing between two or more of your own devices, and even then the app keeps working if you never make one.
Where is my data actually stored?
On your device, in ordinary files. Your books, notes, journal entries and settings live in the app's own storage on your phone or computer. Nothing leaves the device unless you deliberately switch on syncing to a cloud folder that belongs to you.
Which platforms do you support?
Android for every app, plus Windows for Novellaire and Foliover. Other platforms are not ruled out, but we do not promise dates for things that are not built yet.
How do I back up or move to a new device?
Each app can export everything it holds to a single file you keep yourself, and restore from that same file on the new device. Look in Settings for Backup, Export, or Data. Because the backup is a plain archive, you can also keep a copy in whatever cloud you already use.
Do you collect analytics or track usage?
No. There are no advertising kits and no usage analytics in our apps. Where an app can send a crash report, it is switched off until you turn it on, it says so plainly, and the report carries no personal content.
An app crashed and lost something. What now?
Write in straight away and describe what you were doing right before it happened. Restoring from your most recent backup is usually the fastest route, and if the app wrote something corrupt, we want the details so it stops happening to anyone else.
Reading and library questions
Novellaire has a site of its own with the full feature list and downloads: novellaire.ca.
Which file types can Novellaire open?
Standard book files and plain text, plus PDF with a dedicated page view. If a file will not open, the built-in repair and convert tools can often rescue it, and if they cannot, send it over and we will have a look at why.
Why will a book I bought from a store not open?
Books sold with Adobe copy protection are locked by the store that sold them, and no third party reader can legally open them. Novellaire shows a small lock on those files instead of pretending they are broken. Books without that protection open normally.
Do my highlights and bookmarks survive an update?
Yes. Highlights, bookmarks and reading position are anchored to the text itself, not to a page number, so they stay in the right place across restarts, updates and even after you change fonts, spacing or reading mode.
Can it read out loud?
Yes, using the voices installed on your device, with speed and voice selection in the reader's own settings. It follows along on screen as it reads, and it keeps going with the screen off.
What is the difference between the free and paid versions?
Reading is free and does not need an account. The paid tier covers the studio side of the app, the editor, cleaner and file tools, and the parts that sync between your own machines. Anything you were doing for free keeps working.
Notes and syncing questions
Can I bring my notes over from Google Keep?
Yes. Export your notes from Google Takeout, then point Foliover at the zip file it gives you. Notes, checklists, labels and the photos attached to them all come across. There is an importer for Standard Notes exports as well.
How does syncing work if you do not host my notes?
Foliover writes each note as a small file into a folder you choose, and reads back anything it finds there. Point it at a folder your own cloud client already mirrors, for example pCloud, Proton Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or Nextcloud, and both devices see the same notes without us ever holding a copy.
Syncing happens when something changes and when you open the app, rather than on a timer chewing through your battery.
What happens if I edit the same note on two devices?
The most recently saved version wins, and deletions are recorded properly so a note you deleted on one device does not reappear from the other. Because every note is a separate file, a conflict can only ever affect that one note.
Is there a desktop version?
Yes, for Windows, with the same board, the same editor, the same themes and the same folder syncing. Both versions read the same file format.
When can I install it?
Foliover is still in development and is not on a store page yet. Send a note saying you want it and we will let you know when it is out.
Everything else
When are Dayloom and Folden coming out?
Both are in development and neither has a release date we would trust enough to print. Write in and say which one you are waiting on, and you will hear from us when it ships.
How do plans and payments work?
Paid plans are small yearly amounts, shown in the app before you are asked for anything, and billed through the app store you installed from. That means cancelling and refunds are handled in your store account, on the store's terms. If something goes wrong, write to us anyway and we will help you sort it out.
What happens to my work if I stop paying?
Nothing is deleted and nothing is locked. The paid extras switch off, the app returns to the free tier, and everything you have written or imported stays exactly where it is, openable and exportable.
Does this website track me?
There is no analytics and there are no advertising or tracking cookies here. If you pick a light or dark theme, that choice is saved in your own browser and never sent anywhere. The page loads its two typefaces from Google Fonts, which means Google's servers see the request for the font files, as they would on most of the web.
I want a feature that does not exist yet.
Good. Those emails are the most useful ones we get, and a fair number of the features listed on this site started as somebody's message. Tell us what you are trying to do rather than how you think it should work, and we will find the shortest route to it.
Still stuck?
Send whatever you have, even if it is only half a sentence and a screenshot. We would rather hear about it early than find out from a review.
